Getting There

Daintree Rainforest Bungalows is a two-hour drive (approx.120 km)
north of Cairns in the heart of the Daintree World Heritage area,
famous for its unique lowland tropical rainforest.
Drive north out of Cairns along the Bruce Highway (Hwy 1) through
sugarcane and forest covered mountains to Smithfield (10 minutes).
Do not take the Kuranda turnoff but continue on Highway 44 towards
Port Douglas/Mossman past Ellis Beach (25 mins) and Rex Lookout, which
has fantastic views east across the Coral Sea. Continue on past the
Port Douglas turnoff to Mossman, a sugar town which is the regional
centre, one hour north of Cairns.
From Mossman continue north on the main highway past Wonga Beach (15
minutes from Mossman) and 10 km later turn right to reach the Daintree
River ferry. Cross over on the ferry and continue to the top of the
Alexander Range where the Wulu Wigirrega lookout has stunning views
back across the forest, Daintree River mouth and Coral Sea to Port
Douglas.
Continue down through rainforest to the small township of Cow Bay
which boasts a pub, several restaurants, a backpackers, a general
store and an airstrip for light planes. Turn right off the main Cape
Tribulation road toward Cow Bay beach and then take the second turn
on the right (approx 2.5 Km). Daintree Rainforest Bungalows are located
250m on the right of Spurwood Road. |
