Cape Tribulation rainforest accommodation from $125 per night. Surrounded by the Daintree World Heritage National Park. Two hours north of Cairns and surrounded by lush North Queensland tropical rainforest, these unique Bungalows are located at beautiful Cow Bay, close to a number of fantastic beaches and boardwalks and handy to the busy tourism hub of Cape Tribulation.
There are two main seasons with the Dry season extending from May to December and the Wet, which is also the hottest and most humid time of year from late December til mid May (though, as with climates around the world, these dates are not always reliable). Temperatures during the Dry range from around 25-28 degrees C during the day to as low as 14 degrees at night and in the Wet up to 35 degrees during the day and 25 degrees at night. The Daintree gets around 5 meters of rain a year with the majority in the Wet. Although swimming in the sea is not recommended during the Wet due to jellyfish (unless you have a Stinger Suit) there are numerous small creeks and waterholes all perfect to cool off in.
High Season is from July through to October and Low Season extends for the whole period of the Wet. During High Season it is advisable to book accommodation and activities well in advance.
During your stay several activities are highly recommended:
*** A guided day (or night) walk with our highly experienced local guides will give you an appreciation of just how amazing this 100 million year old rainforest really is.
*** A cruise to the outer reef from Cape Tribulation not only gives you more time snorkeling or diving at the reef than comparable trips from Cairns or Port Douglas but the reefs visited are also vibrant with colour and populated by an incredible variety of corals, clams, starfish and tropical reef fish of every shape and size. The crew are extremely capable and helpful and can assist even total beginners to have an unforgettable experience.
*** A visit to the nearby Daintree Rainforest Environment Centre with its boardwalk, display and information centre (complete with the latest CDi touch screen technology and twin film theatres) and magical views across the forest from the 5-storey viewing tower is a must.
*** And a Crocodile Tour with Cooper Creek Wilderness Cruises is informative as well as exciting and gives visitors an excellent chance of getting within meters of Australia’s intriguing saltwater crocodiles in their natural mangrove habitat.
Please see the “Activities” page for a slideshow and more information and for a comprehensive listing of the wide range of other activities and walks available locally.
All tours can be booked from Daintree Rainforest Bungalows.
